To discover or rediscover the treasures of the Umbria countryside. To discover the many jewels ensconced in our region, jewels that lie almost always outside the traditional tourist routes: abbeys, castles and old towns.
It is a good way to get to know, study and appreciate the artistic, historic and scenic beauties of rural Perugia, which is one of the largest rural areas in Italy. One that has a great deal to offer by way of testimony of the history and the culture of the peoples who lived here in the past and left tangible and significant signs of their passage.
In all, five Spring appointments, five routes designed and organised in order to acquire an in-depth knowledge of this rural area thanks to a new model of tours and sustainable tourism.
All this was created by the Local Action Groups (Gal) Media Valle del Tevere, Alta Umbria e Trasimeno Orvietano and the City of Perugia. It was made possible thanks to a European Union contribution: Leader Plus is the community programme. It begins on Saturday 5 April with the Montelabate Abbey. In the afternoon, at 4 pm, there will be a guided and re-enacted tour of the Tiber river and the Tower with Graziano Vinti, Vladimiro Vagnetti and Valeria Puletti from the Associazione Ecomuseo. Then, at 5 pm, there will be the presentation of the “Tesori nella Campagna” guide, with the opportunity to taste a number of typical products, and this is organised by the “Tenuta Fondi Rustici Montelabate”.
Everything is free but it is necessary to book in advance. If you are interested, please contact Gal Media Valle del Tevere, in Torgiano, by phoning 075 – 988.06.82
“It is an extraordinary opportunity to appreciate and enhance the Umbria rural towns”, stressed, among others, Ilio Liberati, the Perugia Councillor for Tourism and Economic Development.
The second of the "Spring Appointments" will be at the Villa del Colle del Cardinale in Colle Umberto, on Saturday 19 April; then, on Sunday 11 May, there will be a visit to Montepetriolo and the surrounding area, and an excursion to Monte Tezio, on Sunday 25 May; and finally, a trip to discover Torre Gualterotta and the Etruscan tomb at Faggeto, on Sunday 15 June.
It is clear that the Gals are doing much to promote tourism in the Perugia rural area, which has a wealth of art and treasures that are known by very few.
