The markets that Italian consumers have concentrated on lately, according to the results of a recent survey, are the leisure time and the high tech markets. Half the people interviewed declared that home and leisure time IT purchases (48%) have become more important, thanks to the purchase of books, CDs, games and DVDs. 46% of them prefers to purchase telephony products, 41% iPods, MP3s and CD readers. «The trend towards the home IT field – explain the researchers – leads us to foresee the desire to improve one's quality of life also through to technological innovation». This type of products will be available en masse at Expo Elettronica, the show market scheduled for Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th at Umbria Fiere, the only regional appointment for this exhibition dedicated to electronics and its applications, which is well-known and appreciated throughout the country, with its 12 appointments in the Centre-North of Ital y. Expo Elettronica is one of the most prestigious national events specialized in the field of telecommunications, an exhibition that has succeeded in creating an exhaustive and valuable exchange and meeting point for amateurs, a large gala that offers objects belonging to the technology of yesterday and today, all under the ‘value-for-money’ label: from old valve radios to last generation PCs. Expo Elettronica is a real alternative to shopping centres and megastores. In fairs, one enjoys the thrill of hunting down and discovering the best bargain and it is possible to buy on a whim without draining one’s finances, also because prices are considerably low. Visitors can find hundreds of products from computers and laptops to monitors, software, peripheral devices and consumer goods, land and mobile telephone products, components, tools and "do-it-yourself" articles. There is also a vast assortment of home entertainment products such as video-projectors, decoders, consoles, video games, mp3 and mp4 readers as well as innovative products for home security and privacy protection. Finally, along side professional products, there is a wide range of useful, useless, rare and bizarre articles. The vast assortment of Expo Elettronica is the result of the speed of technological evolution; unsold objects that cannot go through the large distribution channels as well as second-hand objects all find a deserving place on the display tables of the exhibitors. The same goes for the hundreds of rare components and spare parts that are used to repair the technology of yesterday and that are practically impossible to find outside the circuits of dedicated events such as this. Low-cost products can be found both in the “new” and in the “surplus” stands among the second-hand products, those that work perfectly but might have a small flaw and that expert hands can easily bring back to life. Expo Elettronica is also an excellent opportunity for the profane who want to unearth a funny and strange gadget, like mp3s that are an optional feature of a pair of trendy sun glasses or cell phone covers of incredible colours.
