Flavio Insinna, the popular presenter of Affari Tuoi on Rai Uno is going to abandon his “boxes” for a while to turn to swing, and on Saturday 2 February, he will be at the Lyrich Theatre in Assisi with the entertaining story of a barracks band that is trying to make it. The show will be performed at the Gubbio City theatre again the next day: an unscheduled show not on the Teatro Comico 2008 bill, which the actor decided, along with the town Council, to perform in the town where for five years he shot "Don Matteo", the series that made him known to the public and for which he was awarded an international prize.
After his great television success in the “Don Matteo” series – in the character of Capitano Anceschi – and in the “Affari Tuoi” show – that he is still presenting every evening on Rai Uno -, Insinna is now back to his artistic starting point, the theatre, with a show where he is the protagonist along with a Big Band made of nine musicians who play live and with whom Insinna interacts by weaving the plot.
“Senza Swing” was written by Pierpaolo Palladino and is directed by Giampiero Solari, it tells the story of a country band that tries to make it big in the military service world. Within it, there are many micro-stories concerning various components of the band, which are told and commented ironically by Insinna: dreams, misfortunes, and peripetia of impossible journeys and paradoxically funny situations. The band becomes a micro-cosmos made of many “crafty” and mediocre lives with no swing, a micro-cosmos in which small and petty human lives as well as many social vices often encountered in everyday life coexist involuntarily.
The music offers a continuous reverb, gives concreteness to various episodes and contributes to build the fast pace of the show, whose objective is to tell the stories with lucidity and confidence. Indeed, the show leaves the spectator with a positive feeling because it invites us to refuse and react against mediocrity: if we believe our dreams can come true, we can achieve unexpected results. The danger is having to live a life full of “swing”.
The career of this Roman actor – or as he prefers to define himself, this “craftsman” – began when he received his diploma from the Proietti stage Laboratory and he has alternated between cinema, theatre and television. After a difficult beginning, Insinna met the director Enrico Oldoini, with whom he shot an episode of “Dio vede e provvede”, the film “Un bugiardo in paradise”, the series “Don Matteo” and “La crociera”, all of which made him known and loved by the public. In 2006, he received numerous prizes and in September he began on tv as the presenter of the new edition of “Affari Tuoi”, a programme that, in 2007, earned him a special Telegatto as the “revelation presenter of 2006”.
Who is Flavio Insinna
Flavio Insinna was born in Rome on 3 July 1965. At the age of 15, he was fascinated by Gigi Proietti when he saw his show "A me gli occhi". After receiving his diploma from his classical secondary school in 1984 (liceo Augusto in Rome), he aspired to join the carabinieri, but he did not pass the entrance test.
Among his early theatre performances there is a Latin certamen (ancient competition in verse in Medieval universities, a challenge between poets/writers in Latin), which earned him a prize he received from pope John Paul II. After having been rejected by the Academy of drama in Rome, in 1986, his sister Valentina, a professional journalist, enrolled him (without him knowing) in the Alessandro Fersen acting school.
In 1988, the Proietti stage Laboratory moved into a building very close to his school. Flavio Insinna applied to the Laboratory on the very last day before the deadline. He passed the selection tests and he auditioned in front of Gigi Proietti at the end of the course acting out a monologue by “Edmund Kean, genius and the libertine”, Vittorio Gassman’s specialty act. He passed the audition and left the Fersen school; in 1990 he got his diploma from the Proietti stage Laboratory.
His career as an actor – or as Insinna prefers to define himself a “craftsman” – has alternated between cinema, theatre and television. After a difficult beginning, Insinna met the director Enrico Oldoini, with whom he shot an episode of “Dio vede e provvede”, the film “Un bugiardo in paradiso”, the series “Don Matteo” and “La crociera”, all of which made him known and loved by the public.
In January 2001, he was awarded the special prize "Prima - Guida Italiana degli Attori" for his performance in “Guardami” by Davide Ferrario.
In 2004, he won the "Telegrolle - scommessa vinta" prize and the premio per l'Europa for his interpretation of "Don Bosco". The same year, he received the premio internazionale Sant'Antonio for the series "Don Matteo" where he plays the role of Capitan Anceschi, a character that made him very well-known.
After his failed attempt with the sit-com "Cotti e mangiati", on 24 September 2006, came his debut on tv as a presenter, in the new edition of the programme "Affari Tuoi", previously presented by Paolo Bonolis and Pupo. Still in 2006, at the Campidoglio in Rome, he received the Premio di Cultura "Città di Santa Marinella", for the series "La Buona Battaglia" (Insinna interprets Don Pietro Pappagallo, one of the 335 victims of the Fosse Ardeatine massacre in March 1944).
In 2007, he was awarded a Telegatto special as the "revelation presenter of 2006" for his success with the programme "Affari tuoi".
