In Spello – a preview of the appointments linked to the event dedicated to Bernardino di Betto and the Umbrian figurative culture of his time: the Church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo open to the public again

While the countdown has begun for the opening of the great monographic show and the other exhibitions and itineraries that will mark Perugia and the other locations where Pintoricchio lived and worked, Spello offers a wonderful preview of the celebrations dedicated to Bernardino di Betto and the Umbrian figurative culture of his time by reopening the Church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo. This beautiful Franciscan church dedicated to Saint Peter’s younger brother, who was also an apostle of Christ, still hosts a precious panel depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints that was commissioned from Pintoricchio in 1506 and that the artist was able to complete, however, only thanks to his main collaborator, Eusebio di San Giorgio, to whom he entrusted the remaining work when he was called to Siena to work on more prestigious jobs.

The building was closed due to the damage incurred during the 1997 earthquake. Strengthening and conservation work was then carried out and completed by the Umbria BAPPSAE Department within the context of post-quake intervention aimed at safeguarding the artistic heritage of the area.
The programme of events offered by the Town of Spello opens on Saturday 26 January with the official celebration of the work that has allowed the church to be re-opened for worship.

Mayor Sandro Vitali will be present and by his side also the Undersecretary of Cultural Assets and Activities, Danielle Mazzonis, exceptional patroness for this first stop along the Pintoricchio itinerary that will host a vocal concert by Kamaraton Cactus, a polyphonic choir from Campania that will perform pieces from their broad repertoire of liturgical, sacred, classical and profane music, the next day at 6 pm.
