The countdown for the opening of the Città di Castello National Horse Show started on Tuesday 4 September with the press conference that is traditionally held in the Sala Rossa in the Perugia Chamber of Commerce.Once again this 41st edition of this major showcase for the world of horses will be addressing numerous aspects, all of which were highlighted by the speakers: breeding, sport, entertainment, education and rehabilitation. For four days, the Show will be in the national spotlight, without forgetting the commercial side.
The official presentation of the event, which is scheduled to run from 6 to 9 September 2007 at the Fattoria Autonomo Tabacchi at Cerbara, was chaired by Alviero Moretti, the President of the Perugia Chamber of Commerce which has always supported the Show.
"As members of the Horse Show Association, we are happy," said Alviero Moretti, "to take part in this famous event which has a great potential for developing and enhancing the local environment. This is why we are ready to continue supporting the Show in the future."
For the 2007 addition is the first one to be managed entirely by the new Horse Show Association, whose "founder members", in addition to the Chamber of Commerce, include Unire, the Umbria Regional Government, the Perugia Provincial Authorities, the Municipality of Città di Castello and the Mountain Community of the Upper Tiber Valley. This demonstrates the political will to create a new organisational entity to keep pace with changing times.
The President of the Association, Angelo Capecci, illustrated the programme, highlighting the most important novelties and initiatives planned for this year's edition: "In addition to improving the quality of the more technical section devoted to horse breeding, the Show has also been organised to promote equestrian practices, with more spectacular events, sports events and meetings with children. But the third novelty is the fact that beginning with this edition it will also organise a high-level Conference.
"This latest addition, "added the mayor of Città di Castello, Fernanda Cecchini, "marks a considerable improvement in quality. The Città di Castello Show is continuing to enhance and improve everything that has to do with the world of horses, and to continually offer solutions to meet new needs."
Emphasising the importance of the National Conference on Hippotherapy as a form of treatment, and which will convene on Saturday 8 September, Giovanni Mazzotta, the Director of the Infant Neuropsychiatry Complex of the Terni Health Authority said "This is the first time in Italy that the attention of the general public has been drawn to the possibility of using hippotherapy to treat hyperactive children with problems of concentration and hence social interaction problems."
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which is known in Italy has the "Horse Faculty" is also supporting the Show. "As members of the Horse Show Association, we shall try to offer ever more proposals every year," explained Maurizio Silvestrelli, the Director of the Centre for the Study of Racehorses at Perugia University, "to help this event promote the horse. Our research group, which is working full-time on this fascinating animal – genetics, diseases, health assessment, performance – will be providing assistance."
For the horse will be the undisputed protagonist of these four days at Cità di Castello. Confirming that the Città di Castello Horse Show is now second in importance only to Verona, the President of the Horse Section of the Provincial Breeders' Association, Massimiliani di Valvasone, said: "For the Show we are monitoring the Italialleva show, and can say with certainty that this event has now become an essential fixture on the Italian breeders' calendar."
Finally, Raffaele Franceschetti, Vice President of ANACSi, said that the Show is "an important shop window for the foals produced in Italy, in part due to the Campionato Morfologia el Sella Italiano promoted by Unire, which will be held this year for the first time."
